Transfers: Liverpool

Offense is what we've been missing, and offense is what we've bought. The acquisition of Spanish striker Fernando Torres made the biggest headlines, because he's pretty, and set a club record with his transfer fee. Supposedly, he can score goals too. In the shadow of Torres was the Andriy Voronin deal. A lesser-known Ukrainian striker, Voronin has nevertheless been named man-of-the-match in two consecutive pre-season friendlies, earning praise from Carra himself. More recently, the Reds swiped 20-year-old Ajax striker Ryan Babel out from under Arsenal, who could've used his services, considering their recent losses. Babel's highlight reels get me pretty excited. The Reds also picked up Israel captain and former West Ham midfielder Yossi Benayoun, who has failed to make any impression on me, except in FIFA 07 on Xbox. And even there, he's like, meh. What's more exciting is the ongoing saga of Manchester Utd defender Gabriel Heinze. At first he looked Anfield-bound, then Ferguson said 'Hell no,' and now it appears that a deal could still be forced. More to come on that.

As far as losses go, I have to mourn Luis Garcia, who was sacrificed for Torres. On the other hand, I have to celebrate the dismissal of bitch-ass Craig Bellamy. So long, sucka. Cisse's also gone, but was he ever really here?

Welcome

Here it is: my dedicated soccer blog. A home for all the football (and it will be "football" here) chatter that readers of my all-purpose blog don't give two shits about.

For the Americans: This concerns a sport you probably don't care about.
For the Brits: I'm an American, so I'm a voice you probably don't care about.

It should be fun finding an audience.
